Summit Smart Living was born out of a simple but hard truth: quality electrical craftsmanship was hard to find in North Alabama. Too many homeowners were settling for less, and founder Steven Muntz, a Washington State native, knew exactly what they were missing because he had spent his entire career raising the bar.
Born and raised in Washington State, Steven's career in the electrical trade took root right where he grew up. He spent years wiring some of the most spectacular custom homes on the West Coast, working on projects valued between $10 million and $20 million. He developed a level of precision, attention to detail, and craftsmanship that most contractors never get close to. These weren't just houses. They were architectural masterpieces, and every wire, every panel, every smart system had to be flawless.
In 2023, Steven made the selfless decision to leave Washington and relocate to Huntsville, Alabama. His stepfather had been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer, and Steven wasn't the kind of person to stay behind while his mother and family faced that alone. He moved across the country to be present, to help, and to make a devastating transition as smooth as possible for the people he loved. He was there through his stepfather's passing, doing what family does. That kind of sacrifice says everything about who Steven is, and it's the same character he brings to every job.
After settling into Huntsville, Steven joined a local electrical company and quickly saw what he had suspected: the market had room for something far better. His West Coast standards stood out, but his ambitions were bigger than working for someone else.
Then in 2025, Steven was diagnosed with cancer. What followed was one of the most difficult seasons of his life. He underwent treatment at Vanderbilt Medical Center, one of the nation's leading cancer institutions, and faced the kind of challenge that forces you to think hard about what really matters. What came out of that season wasn't defeat. It was clarity.
Coming through the other side, Steven made a decision: he was going to build something of his own. Something he was proud of. He had spent years mastering his craft on some of the finest homes in the country, and it was time to bring that level of quality to North Alabama. Summit Smart Living was the result.
Today, Summit Smart Living is a licensed electrical contracting business operating under Summit Electric LLC (License #10179), serving homeowners and businesses across Huntsville, Harvest, Madison, Athens, Decatur, Florence, Guntersville, Muscle Shoals, and the surrounding North Alabama communities. Steven may be a Washington native, but North Alabama is where he chose to plant his flag and build something lasting. How much does it cost to hire an electrician in North Alabama?

What is whole-home surge protection and do I need it?
A whole-home surge protector is installed directly at your electrical panel and protects every device and appliance in your home from power surges caused by lightning, utility fluctuations, and large appliances cycling on and off. A single surge can destroy your HVAC system, refrigerator, smart TV, and every connected device in seconds. It is one of the most cost-effective investments a homeowner can make, and we consider it essential for every home we work on.
How long does an electrical panel upgrade take?
Most panel upgrades are completed in one day. We handle the full process including coordinating with your utility company for a temporary power shutoff and scheduling the inspection with the local authority. You will have power back the same day in most cases.
Can you add outlets or circuits to my existing home?
Absolutely. Adding dedicated circuits for home offices, kitchen appliances, garages, EV chargers, or any other high-demand area is one of our most common residential services. We can typically have new outlets or circuits added quickly with minimal disruption to your walls or finishes.
What is GFCI and AFCI protection and why does it matter?
GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) outlets protect against electrical shock in wet areas like bathrooms, kitchens, garages, and outdoors. AFCI (Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter) breakers protect against electrical fires caused by damaged or deteriorating wiring inside your walls. Both are required by current electrical code in new construction and are smart upgrades for any existing home. We install both as part of our safety upgrade services.
Do you offer free estimates?
Yes, we provide free estimates for all projects. We visit your site or review your plans, understand the full scope, and provide a detailed written quote with transparent line items. What we quote is what you pay unless the scope changes, and we always communicate before that happens.
What is pre-construction smart home design?
Pre-construction design means we plan your electrical and smart home systems before your walls are closed. We work directly with your builder to map out every circuit, lighting zone, network port, speaker, camera, and device location so everything is built into the home rather than added on later. It saves money, looks cleaner, and gives you far more capability in the finished product. We are on the job longer than any other subcontractor, which is why early planning and clear communication are central to everything we do.
