Why Level 2 Charging

Your garage should be
your charging station.

Plugging your EV into a standard 120V outlet adds only 3 to 5 miles of range per hour. A Level 2 charger installed by Summit Smart Living adds 20 to 30 miles per hour, meaning most EVs charge completely overnight. Wake up every morning with a full battery.

Charger Types

Which charger is
right for you?

Level 1 — Not Recommended

Standard 120V Outlet

3 to 5 miles of range per hour. Adequate only for plug-in hybrids with small batteries. Not suitable for most full EVs unless you drive very few miles daily.

Level 2 — Recommended

240V Dedicated Circuit

20 to 30 miles of range per hour. Charges most EVs fully in 6 to 10 hours. This is what Summit Smart Living installs, and what every EV owner with a garage should have.

FAQ

EV charger installation
questions answered.

How much does EV charger installation cost in North Alabama?

+

Most Level 2 EV charger installations range from $400 to $1,200 for the electrical work, depending on the distance from your panel to the garage, whether conduit is needed, and your panel's available capacity. The charger unit itself is separate. We provide a free written estimate before any work begins.

Do I need a permit to install an EV charger in Alabama?

+

Yes. A dedicated 240V circuit requires an electrical permit. We handle the permit application and inspection coordination as part of every installation so you do not have to deal with the paperwork.

Does my electrical panel need to be upgraded first?

+

Not always. We assess your panel's available capacity during the estimate. Many homes have enough room to add a 50-amp circuit without an upgrade. If your panel is at capacity, we can discuss a panel upgrade at the same time to handle both in one visit.

How long does the installation take?

+

Most EV charger installations are completed in 2 to 4 hours. Longer runs from the panel or conduit work through finished walls may take a full day.

Can I charge a Tesla with a Level 2 charger?

+

Yes. All modern Teslas use the NACS connector which is compatible with Level 2 charging. We can install either a Tesla Wall Connector or a universal J1772 charger with an adapter. We will recommend the best option for your vehicle during the estimate.

Are there any tax credits or rebates for EV charger installation?

+

Yes. The federal Alternative Fuel Vehicle Refueling Property Credit covers 30% of the cost of EV charger equipment and installation up to $1,000 for homeowners. Check with your tax advisor for current eligibility requirements as these programs can change.
